Afrocentric schools PT. 2.

illain:

So this is part 2 of the whole thing I posted last week.

Let me just say I’m still opposed to it. Not on some racist shit, because it’s not even like that but because what I said still stands, if people are that interested in their culture, they should read a book. The internet isn’t the only resource in the world, and a library card is free, internet, is not. And I know by saying this I’m making myself seem stuck up and whatnot, but I’m not, you can ask anyone who knows me, I just (still) believe that if you do not take the initiative to educate yourself, then don’t get mad when society doesn’t do it for you. Nobody educated me on the shit I know about my roots. Not even my parents, I read books and I admit there’s still things that need to be learned but with that said, I also don’t think they’re going to be learned at school. It’s not up to me to pave the path for you to discover your heritage. You know what we learn about in history classes in Ontario? We don’t learn about anybody’s race, we learn about fucking Louis Riel, the war of 1812, the underground railroad, N.B and N.O/Acadians and Creoles, and the Fur Trade. So to say your race is being blatantly excluded is reaching, EVERYBODY is being blatantly excluded. Another thing I’d like to mention is people said that it wasn’t because it was meant to be an all-black thing it was meant to educate the people. Again, go back to the previous point and really, you really think people who aren’t black are gonna feel welcome there? Dig real deep in the core of your mind and let me know, and don’t say yes just because you agree with the idea of an Afrocentric school. Nah. They’re not. Not even on some racist shit it just goes unspoken. And it would be anybody. Not just black people, so before someone goes and reblogs this calling me a bigot, chill. Plus if they made a white-focused school people would be up in arms calling it racist. Why is it racist? Because they’re white? Not everything that’s related to white people is racist, you know. If black people are allowed to have schools where they are taught about civil wars and slavery and underground railroads and wall street and Harriet Tubman (which, mind you, is ALL taught in 11/12 history) then white people should be allowed to have schools where they are taught about civil wars, the KKK and colonialism and Nathan Bedford Forrest. It’s part of their history, shameful or not, I’m sorry, there’s no denying it, so why the fuck not? Oh right. Because it would be racist. Because every other race is still bound by shackles. Being a minority female, I personally hate when people use race as an excuse. I’m doing fine. And I don’t wanna say despite my race because that shit makes it sound like it hinders me. It isn’t a reason anymore, yeah you still have your ignorant people trying to bind you to certain stereotypes and shit, but if you think that that is everyone and your race isn’t meant to excel, then you’re just as ignorant because you live in the fucking past. Pick up a book. If you need a school to learn about where you come from there’s something wrong. And that concludes my side of it.

P.S. This isn’t a race thing, it could have been anyone, so don’t jump me on that shit I was just expressing an opinion.
